Woodland Park Colorado

Woodland Park is a cool Colorado Rocky Mountain town located at the base of Pikes Peak. The town is in close proximity to several Colorado tourist attractions and is in the heart of the Pikes Peak National Forest.

One of our Top 10 Family Vacations was when we stayed in Woodland Park and visited the surrounding areas.

The town is located along US Hwy 24 about 20 miles northwest of Colorado Springs. We found it to be a family and pet friendly place with some great restaurants, a cozy downtown and some wonderful mountain scenery.

Fast Fun Factoids:

Elevation 8465

Average Snowfall 37"

Population 6500

Part of the allure of this town for us was our desire to explore the surrounding mountains. The scenic drives are amazing and the opportunities to experience something new are around every bend.

While we didn't spend alot of time in town it was a great place to call home base. We found the familiar places such as Walmart, Starbucks and more. More than anything we enjoyed the great little family owned and operated businesses along Hwy 24 such as The Bear Spot and the Tabeguache Steak House.

Right in downtown on Fairview Street, you'll find the Rocky Mountain Dinosaur Resource Center. Just outside of town in Divide Colorado is the Wolf and Wildlife Center.

Just to give you an idea of what's in store for you, here is the scenic highway on US 24 driving into town.

Lodging

You'll find plenty of hotels and motels in town. We opted to stay in a little 350 square foot cabin at Eagle Fire Lodge.

Shopping

We found plenty of shopping was available in the downtown area as well as several mom and pop shops along the highway as you come in to town. We stopped in at The Bear Spot on Hwy 24 just outside of town in Cascade. Jimmy bought one of those chainsaw carved bears from artist Larry Wilson.

Rentals, Tours and Outfitters

There's plenty of places to rent ATV's, snowmobiles and other offroad rentals or book an outfitter. Be sure to make your reservations as early as possible as they fill up fast. We stopped in at Rockhound ATV and they were already accepting reservations for the next week.
