The Florissant Fossil Beds is one of several National Monuments located in the South Central region of Colorado. It's is a wonderful family attraction offering either self guided or ranger led tours. Tours cover huge redwood petrified stumps and insect fossils. We had a great time watching the abundance of ground squirrels too.

A small visitor center is on site that offers park information and a hand full of exhibits. This Colorado park offers trails that are well marked with signs displaying information on the history of the area.
Park Entrance Fees
$3 Fee (Cash or Check Only) Free with America the Beautiful National Park Pass
NO PETS ALLOWED ON TRAILS
Park Entrance Fee is based on the honor system and is payable at a Kiosk in front of the Visitor Center. Just insert your cash or check in an envelope and drop in the box.
Pets are not allowed on any of the trails but there is a nice little exercise area off of the Parking Lot.

These Redwood stumps are massive! You have to see these in person to appreciate their size.

There are several trails to choose including the Ponderosa Loop and Petrified Wood Forest. Walking the trails provides a grand view of the Florissant Valley and surrounding Mountains.

There is plenty of detailed signage along the trails to help with identification of the fossils, history of the area and more.
