Eleven Mile Canyon is Colorado's Best Kept Secret! Located on Hwy 96 in the area of Lake George, Colorado. This is a great day trip where you can go hiking, rock climbing, kayaking, river fishing or just have a picnic in beautiful surroundings.
Overnight camping is available and reservations are highly recommended. This is a popular spot for fisherman and is a renowned recreation spot for the locals.
Climber's are especially drawn to the Canyon. There's a couple of guides out there specifically about climbing at Eleven Mile.

This is one of my favorite Colorado Federal Parks. There is so much to see that the entire 22 mile round trip is well worth it. Each roadside park and campground along the route is unique and has it's own allure.
Be aware, the condition of the road itself could be better but making the drive should present no serious problems. You can expect a rough ride similar to a washboard effect for the entire length of the park. The drive is tight in spots and only allows for 1 way traffic at times.
Whatever you do don't give up on making it to the end of the road! The scenery definitely makes up for the road condition.
The Canyon road dead ends just before you get to the spillway at Eleven Mile Reservoir.

There's a wonderful little park and picnic area equipped with restrooms, picnic tables and a bridge to the other side of the river. Emily had a blast chasing sticks in the river current.
You'll find 2 of these tunnels on your eleven mile journey to the end of the canyon.
Our return trip out of the park was later in the day. As can happen in Colorado in late afternoons, storms started to brew just as we were heading out.
The river ranges considerably from calm to rushing rapids. This makes the Canyon a great place for fly fisherman. This catch and release river is a great place for finding trout.
The river snakes along parallel with the road the entire length of the Canyon.
At any given time during the day, this day use park is a popular stop for those visiting the Canyon.
We hope you get an opportunity to visit the Canyon. If your passing through the area we highly recommend you check it out.
