Colorado Waterfalls

Colorado waterfalls offer you a great opportunity to rejuvenate and relax while taking in the beautiful surroundings.

All of these natural waterfalls of Colorado flow best in Spring as the snow melts. During Winter, most of the falls are frozen over creating a totally new family adventure experience. During the Summer months, some of these falls tend to produce minimal flow but provide great streams and opportunities for outdoor explorations. Fall is great time to visit with the changing of the leaves as a backdrop.

Bear Creek Falls (Telluride)
Fee:
Access Point: South Pine Street

Bear Creek is located on a 380 Acre Telluride Preserve. Access to the Falls requires a 2 1/2 mile hike into Bear Creek Canyon.

Boulder Falls (Boulder)
Fee:
Access Point: Canyon Boulevard

70ft waterfall with plenty of parking across from the entrance. This waterfall has been known to have problems with falling rock so it's wise to stick to the main paths and trails.

Box Canyon Falls (Ouray)
Fee: $3.00 Adult / $1.50 Children
Access Point: Third Avenue

This Canyon Creek waterfall allows you a chance to walk into the heart of the falls via a suspension bridge.

Bridal Veil Falls (Telluride)
Fee:
Access Point: Colorado Avenue past the Old Mill

This is Colorado's longest free-falling 365ft double waterfall.

Cascade Falls (Ouray)
Fee:
Access Point: Eighth Avenue

The Upper Cascade Falls offers grand views of Ouray. Although you can see the falls within a 1/2 mile walk, the entire trail to the Chief Ouray Mine is a 2 1/2 mile moderate hike that will require good shoes.

For this Ouary Colorado waterfall plan for a minimum 2 hour round trip if going all the way to the mine. Enjoy the views of both the Lower Cascade and Upper Cascade from Cascade Creek.

Fish Creek Falls (Steamboat Springs)
Fee: $5.00
Pet Friendly Attraction
Access Point: County Road 32 (Fish Creek Falls Road)

The 280ft Fish Creek Falls is located just outside of Steamboat Springs. The waterfall is within short walking distance of the parking area with additional trails to Upper Fish Creek Falls. We have not had the pleasure of visiting this waterfall yet but we have heard several rave reviews.

I recently found some fantastic photo shots of Ice Climbers and Frozen Fish Creek Falls on this great blog by PK. Here personality really shines through in her writing. Check it out here.

Seven Falls (Colorado Springs)
Fee: Yes
Access Point: Cheyenne Canyon Road

This is one of two Colorado waterfalls located around Colorado Springs. If you go to Seven Falls with an open mind you will most likely enjoy this stop. Expect a very strenuous stair climb, thin (skinny) falls and occasional weather related closures.

Suggestion: if your going to pay to enter the falls, get your monies worth and plan to take the 224 stairs that lead to hiking trails at the top of the falls. Skip the 184 steps that takes you to Eagle's Nest Observation Deck which can be accessed by the Mountain Elevator.

Zapata Falls (Alamosa)

Access Point: State Highway 150

Located on the Highway 150 headed towards the Great Sand Dunes National Park this is definitely a side trip worth taking. The cascading Zapata Falls offers spectacular views of the Dunes.

Expect about a half mile hike to the natural waterfalls from the parking lot. To truly experience the heart of the falls requires a little bit of scrambling the rocks and getting your feet wet. We highly recommend the Zapata Falls as a family friendly adventure!
