The historic city founded in 1859, is home to the Royal Gorge Bridge. The world's highest suspension bridge spanning a 1/4 mile across the Arkansas whitewater rapids below.

Canon City offers alot of popular attractions and activities. We suggest spending several days here in order to take it all in. Here's an idea on great ways to spend your time while your here.
Day 1 Arriving in Canon City Colorado
Getting Acclimated and Cruisin Downtown
Check out the downtown district. While not as spectacular as some of the Colorado downtown's I've seen it's still worth a stop. Unfortunately, it's easy to miss as it's not the main drag through town.
Shopping downtown can be a special treat for the entire family. Browse the gift shops as you catch a glimpse of the 1900's architecture that still exists.
If you love Italian Food this would be a great night to stop by Merlino's Belvedere. Great handmade Italian food worth every bite!
Day 2 in Canon City Colorado
All Day Heights and Adventure
For one of the top Colorado Attractions head to the Royal Gorge Park. The Park offers a wide array of activities for the family that loves heights. We easily spent an entire day here at the park with the rides, sights to see, souvenirs to shop for, funnel cakes to eat and more. Be sure to stop by the Plaza Theatre for a short video about the Park.
It's the adrenaline junkies dream!
Kids of all ages and adults alike will love this Adventure Park. The Colorado scenery from atop the bridge is spectacular. You'll also find the Bridge and Park to be extremely dog friendly.

Plan a trip in September and attend the Go Fast Games. They canceled the event in 2009 but it's back on for this year for September 17th-19th. This is Adrenaline Pumping at it's finest. Event hosts Bungee Jumping, Base Jumping, BMX Demos, Rock Climbing and more.

Day 3 in Canon City Colorado
Hit the River for All Day Adventure then Chow on the Best Burger Around!
Enjoy family friendly Colorado river rafting trips down the Arkansas River. This part of the state offers some of the best world-class whitewater rafting in Colorado. Finding an outfitter here is a breeze.
You can enjoy all classes of rafting. Some options include half day, full day, family float trips and multi-day trips. The most popular rafting excursions by far are the Royal Gorge Raft Trips that run Class III - Class V Rapids.
In order to get the most bang for you buck, we highly suggest choosing a combo package that includes rafting and other Canon City activities. Other activities include the Royal Gorge Railroad, Wine Tasting at Holy Cross Abbey, Royal Gorge Bridge and Park and more.
This will probably be one evening that dressing up to dine out is not going to be at the top of your list. If that's the case and you love burgers head to Big Burger World. They offer Monster burgers to "Die For". Believe me you won't need that side of fries but will want to pile on your favorite toppings.
Day 4 in Canon City CO
Take a Drive on the Wild Side Then Kick Back and Relax
Skyline Drive Tour and Royal Gorge Route Railroad. Skyline Drive is just as the name implies, this 3 mile one way drive runs along a ridge with a grand view of the Canon City Skyline.
Warning - this drive is not for everyone (some may say your sanity is in question if you choose to take this drive). The road does have a vehicle length limit of 22ft.
then....
Hop on the of the most scenic train rides in Colorado. The Royal Gorge Route Railroad is a spectacular 24 mile ride you won't soon forget. This great scenic railroad offers up unique views as it runs through the heart of the canyon known as the "Royal Gorge". There is fun to be had by everyone in the family. This 2 hour train ride offers so many options it's hard to choose which train to take.
If your riding later in the day and your kids are older than 8, go for the Dinner or Murder Mystery Train. It offers a fabulous Gourmet 3 course meal to complement the spectacular views. Did I mention I love Prime Rib!

If you find that you enjoyed Skyline Drive, you should check out the Gold Belt Tour that runs through Cripple Creek, Victor, Florissant and other great cities. Head down Shelf Road or Phantom Canyon Road for even more hair raising adventure.
Locals Only Know:
Canon City is a prison town. You'll find the main facility at one end of town and the Women's facility at the other. Please don't let this deter you from visiting as this is a great city with plenty of family friendly adventures.
